Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs)
You are a good mother.
Parenthood is a significant life transition, and sometimes that transition isn’t so smooth. PMADs affect many pregnant and postpartum women (and their partners, too), yet mothers are often left suffering in silence. PMADs are treatable, and it’s not too late to seek treatment. If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, let’s chat. I can support your recovery and help you to feel more like yourself again.
Common symptoms:
Anxious, depressed, or irritable mood
Difficulty bonding with baby
Unwanted thoughts of harming baby or self
Feelings of regret, shame, and/or guilt
Social isolation from loved ones
Frequent crying spells
Significant changes in sleep and/or appetite
Though rare, some postpartum women will hear voices or see things that others cannot hear or see. This is postpartum psychosis, which is a medical emergency. If you are having these symptoms, call 9-1-1 for immediate help.
